Golf course

A golf course is the grounds in which the game of golf is played. That comprises a number of holes, each consisting of a teeing ground, a fairway, the rough and other dangers, and a green with a flagstick and opening. A regular round of tennis contains eighteen holes. Virtually all courses contain eighteen openings; some share fairways or greens, and a subsection, subdivision, subgroup, subcategory, subclass has nine holes, performed twice per round. Par-3 courses consist of seven or eighteen holes all of which have pendant of three strokes.

Various older courses are links, often coastal. Courses are private, public, and municipally owned, and typically have a pro shop. Various private courses are found at country clubs.
